🍿 NOW IN CINEMAS

Tron: Ares follows a rogue AI program played by Jared Leto as it crosses from a digital realm into the real world, exploring humanity while interacting with its creators and other AI entities. The film also stars Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith, and features Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.

The film is playing in local cinemas in both Czech-dubbed and original English-language versions; both versions are screening in 2D and 3D. The Prague Reporter says that Tron: Ares “demands to be seen in the biggest and loudest cinema possible,” praising its striking visuals and electrifying soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails.

Roofman tells the story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former U.S. Army Reserve soldier who became known for a series of robberies carried out by breaking through the roofs of establishments, and later living undetected inside a Toys “R” Us store in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine), the film stars Channing Tatum as Manchester, portraying both his benevolent nature and the darker impulses that shape his choices. The Prague Reporter notes that the film “represents a quietly tragic character study of a man caught between decency and criminal compulsion.”

A middle-aged couple left homeless and penniless embarks on a months-long trek along England’s South West Coast Path in The Salt Path, adapted from Raynor Winn’s bestselling autobiographical novel. Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs star as Winn and her husband Moth, portraying their struggle to survive on minimal resources while navigating harsh weather, isolation, and the physical challenges of the trail.

The Prague Reporter notes that the film is “deeply affecting thanks to Anderson and Isaacs, who bring warmth and emotional precision to their characters,” highlighting the actors’ chemistry and the striking cinematography on the coast of Southwest England by Hélène Louvart.

📺 NEW TO STREAMING

The Chair Company follows Ron (I Think You Should Leave's Tim Robinson), a project manager at a midwestern mall development firm, who becomes convinced a seemingly ordinary office chair is connected to a secret conspiracy. Sophia Lillis, Lake Bell, and Jim Downey appear in supporting roles.

The Wrap calls the show “a quietly compelling glimpse into the clash between artistry and commerce,” highlighting Robinson’s blend of physical comedy, absurd humor, and unexpectedly poignant storytelling. The series premieres Sunday, Oct. 12, on HBO Max in the U.S. (Monday morning, Prague time), with new weekly episodes releasing through the end of November.

🇨🇿 Czech Films in Focus

Change My Mind premiered in Czech cinemas less than two months ago, but it is already streaming on Netflix, coinciding with recent election results that may change Czech support for Ukraine. The film follows three pro-Russian apologists from Prague to Kharkiv’s front lines, examining their confrontation with the realities of Putin’s war.

The Prague Reporter called the film “a devastating snapshot of the times we are living in,” noting its unflinching portrayal of the war and the filmmakers’ ability to convey the human and moral complexities at the front.

🎬 Now Filming in Prague

If you’re strolling through central Prague this week, you might stumble across a film set as locations in the city center are turned into 1870s New York for Netflix’s upcoming series The Age of Innocence. The production has recently installed period props, including green gas street lamps along the cobblestones, on Politických vězňů and other areas in the vicinity of Wenceslas Square.

The eight-episode series, based on Edith Wharton’s 1920 novel, stars Ben Radcliffe and Kristine Froseth as a couple whose romance is constrained by societal conventions. Camila Morrone appears as a beautiful and alluring countess. According to The Prague Reporter, filming for the series in the Czech capital will continue through next March.
