The Pražák Quartet will host a new chamber music festival at Hlahol Hall in Prague this autumn. The series, Pražák and Friends at Hlahol, runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 25 2025 and will include five concerts featuring both the quartet and guest artists.

Hlahol Hall, an Art Nouveau building rarely open to the public, provides a historic setting for the performances.

The new festival brings together the quartet with a range of guest musicians. Performances will include both well-known works and contemporary pieces, including premieres. Hlahol Hall, which historically served Prague’s choral societies, offers a smaller, more intimate and acoustically resonant venue for the series.

The festival program includes:

  • Sept. 28: Featuring clarinetist Anna Paulová, with works by Josef Suk, Antonín Dvořák, and W.A. Mozart
  • Oct. 4: Quartet alone: Haydn’s The Lark, Smetana’s String Quartet No. 2, Dvořák’s Op. 105.
  • Oct. 18: With mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor: Anders Hillborg’s Kongsgaard Variations (Czech premiere), Respighi’s Il tramonto, Dvořák’s Cypresses.
  • Oct. 24: Again, O’Connor along with pianist François Dumont: works by Korngold, Grieg, George Crumb, Reynaldo Hahn, and Ernest Chausson
  • Oct. 25: With Dumont: Beethoven’s Op. 95 Quartet, the world premiere of Tomáš Prechal’s String Quartet, Dvořák’s Piano Quintet Op. 81

Founded in 1972, the Pražák Quartet has performed widely in Europe and North America and has a discography of more than 60 recordings. The ensemble is known for its performances of Czech composers such as Dvořák, Smetana, and Suk, as well as works by other European composers.

Pražák and Friends at Hlahol is intended to provide audiences an opportunity to hear chamber music in an intimate setting and to experience collaborations between the quartet and international artists.
