Prague is having a matcha moment—here are the best spots to get it

The Pumpkin Spice Latte has long ruled autumn. But in Prague, another contender has stolen the spotlight this year: matcha, the frothy green tea that has quickly taken over the city’s cafés and is only growing in demand.

There are popular, well-frequented coffee chains such as Costa and Starbucks where the green drink has been added as a menu item, and Prague’s Ema espresso bars have reported matcha makes up a fifth to a quarter of total sales in their cafes. But the biggest sign of its popularity? Specialized venues cropping up where matcha features as the main offering—rather than just a minor menu item.

With its all-pink interior and playful aesthetic, Atomic Matcha in Karlín feels tailor-made for Instagram—though the drinks here have more substance than just looks. The menu leans into fun, fruit-forward flavors, and the runaway bestseller is the Mango Matcha Latte. Also on the menu: matcha ice cream and even slushies!

In the heart of Letná, Chez Vien is putting its own playful spin on iced matcha drinks. One of the café’s signature drinks is the Passionfruit Matcha Tonic. The drink pairs the earthy depth of matcha with the bright kick of passionfruit syrup and the fizz of tonic water. Other highlights on the iced menu include fruity twists like Mango Matcha with purée and milk, the fragrant Earl Grey Matcha, and a refreshing Yuzu Matcha Tonic.
