How a new law could transform tipping practices in Czechia

New rules could make tipping at restaurants more regulated, and possibly pricier, changing how much money ends up in the server’s hand (and leaves yours).

You’ve probably rounded up a bill in a Czech restaurant without thinking twice. But what if that casual tip became part of your waiter’s official paycheck?

That’s exactly what the Czech Chamber of Commerce is proposing. It wants to bring tipping under Czech law, turning what is now an informal gesture into a regulated, transparent part of employee remuneration.

For customers, that could mean your tip appears clearly on your receipt or payment terminal—recorded, taxed, and potentially even officially included in wages.
