How Czechia's new energy law puts more power in consumers' hands

If you’ve ever felt trapped by an energy contract or frustrated by surprise charges, changes to the Czech Energy Act may make your life easier: they may also save you thousands of crowns. Key provisions strengthening your rights as a consumer took effect Aug. 1, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has said.

The amendments, part of the so-called “Lex OZE III” package, limit what suppliers can charge if you leave a contract early, require clearer communication about price changes, introduce fines for supplier delays, guarantee your right to see your contract at any time, and expand the official price comparison tool.
