Influential West Coast hip-hop group The Pharcyde will perform at Lucerna Music Bar on June 10 as part of a European tour marking the 30th anniversary of their seminal album Labcabincalifornia.
Known for turning heads in the early '90s with a fresh, humorous, and melodic alternative to the era’s dominant gangsta rap, The Pharcyde brought a new kind of energy to the West Coast scene. With their blend of skillful rapping, singing, dancing, and charisma, the group carved out a space that felt joyful and original—more “feel-good funk” than street menace.
Their second album, Labcabincalifornia, originally released in 1995, marked a shift toward a more mature sound and thoughtful lyricism. While their 1992 debut Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde made an instant impact with its playful tone and experimental edge, Labcabincalifornia brought a deeper, smoother sonic palette and reflective themes. Though it didn’t chart as high initially, the album has grown in stature over the decades and is now widely considered one of hip-hop’s classic records.
Produced in part by the late J Dilla—alongside Diamond D, M-Walk, and members of the group themselves—the album features standout tracks such as “Runnin’,” “She Said,” and “Drop,” the latter accompanied by a now-iconic music video filmed entirely in reverse. Guest cameos in the clip included Beastie Boys’ Mike D and Ad-Rock.
Still performing to sold-out venues across Europe, The Pharcyde continue to prove their staying power—offering a live experience that’s not just nostalgic but musically vital. For hip-hop fans, this is more than a show; it’s a celebration of an album that helped redefine the genre.
Tickets for the Prague show are available starting at 790 CZK (early bird) through musicbar.cz and GoOut.net. Once early bird tickets sell out, prices will rise to 890 CZK.
