Foreigners seeking work in Czechia entitled to state-funded health insurance

Foreigners who are properly registered with the Czech Labor Office as job seekers are entitled to public health insurance, the Ombudsman has clarified.

Foreigners who legally reside in the Czech Republic and are actively looking for work can access public health insurance funded by the state. This was recently clarified by Stanislav Křeček, the country's Public Defender of Rights.

This decision followed a complaint from a migrant counseling center in Pilsen. The center reported that while labor offices were registering foreigners as job seekers, health insurance companies were not covering their medical expenses.
